GoodReader equivalent for the surface?
Goodreader on my ipad has been pretty godlike, but I'm struggling to find an equivalent on the surface 4 pro (ie, for windows).
I'm looking for a pdf reader that:
- Allows you to view two pages at a time side by side.
- Allows you to crop your viewing area (ideally with an option to have two types of cropping for even/odd pages)
- Is free or requires only a small one-time purchase.
- Ideally is lightweight.
Any suggestions? So far I've tried Foxitreader (can't seem to crop), Sumatra PDF (can't do either (1) nor (2)), and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (which doesn't seem to let you crop unless you pay for the pro version, which is either $449, or a $14.99 monthly subscription.
I don't need any fancy features like cloud storage or annotation or whatever. I just want to be able to read my pdfs efficiently.
Edit: Just tried drawboard. While it's a beautiful app, unfortunately it doesn't let you crop, and it won't let me resize the the window that pops up when you want to view bookmarks, which ends up requiring a ton of scrolling (I'm reading a 5000 page document with lots of chapters/sections/subsections).
EDIT: Found one! Thanks to /u/gewruiaqhgeuiabghrey, Xodo fits all my criteria. What a fantastic app. It looks nice too. Thanks!

-= File Reading =-
PDF, TXT, MS Office, iWork, HTML, pictures, music & audio-books, videos. This is what you can view in GoodReader, plus you can also annotate PDF files and edit TXT files.
-= PDF Reading and Annotating =-
PDF files is where GoodReader truly shines. Reading experience is so superior, it's hard to describe. To rephrase one of our customers' review, 'try it, and you'll see.' While you're at it, give our PDF Reflow feature a try. You'll be surprised how much better PDF reading goes when you don't have to scroll left/right all the time, for every single line of text.
Annotating PDFs is another star feature of our app. Adding notes and drawings, highlighting text, and then sharing your annotated files or annotation summaries will be your main productivity and collaboration asset.
-= File Management =-
While reading files is a big part of GoodReader, it's not all it can do. It can also serve as a central hub for all your files, even those that can't be opened by GoodReader itself. It's like bringing your personal computer experience to your mobile device — easily managing huge collections of files and folders will make you forget you don't have your laptop around.
-= Connecting =-
Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Box.com, WebDAV, SMB, AFP, FTP, SFTP — these are all accessible from inside GoodReader. Download, upload, and sync individual files or huge folder collections.
-= Security =-
With GoodReader, your data security steps up to the level previously only dreamt of. With Pro Pack (*), our new set of professional-level super-features, you'll get AES-256, a military-grade encryption, for all your data, at a price of a cup of coffee! And it's completely independent from the built-in Apple's Data Protection, so even if a hacker steals and unlocks your device, your data will still be protected by another strong layer of security, our own.
-= Split-Screen =-
A part of the Pro Pack (*) add-on, this wonderful new feature allows you to split an iPad screen in half, to read two files side-by-side. And even two different parts of the same file!
-= Privacy =-
Our commitment is to never monitor any user activity or gather any analytical data through the app. There are no usernames, profiles or accounts to log in to. Use the tool at your leisure with ZERO monitoring.
(*): Pro Pack is a paid add-on, sold separately from inside the app, as an in-app purchase.

Such a disappointment, change to a license?!
After waiting for donkeys years for an update all we receive is really dated design with dog UGLY colours. Nothing changed really. Major improvements are needed for pdf annotations. The engine is prehistoric and things like hand notes, colour selection, deleting are exactly the same as 10 years ago. Hard and annoying to use. Still no undo nor redo. Where’s the precision of an Apple Pencil? Making hand notes is like drawing with a stick on a sand. It is still one of the best all in one apps for file management and pdf reading but it’s in an urgent need for a proper update for annotating not a patch of ugly dads army colours we’ve got instead!
The possible hidden change to license type software in a near future is a betrayal to customers who paid out right to own the product (now twice with a pro package). If that’s a case please re-link the version 4. As soon as this license subscription happens I’m leaving for competition!
THIS APP IS NOT INTUITIVE AT ALL making it so hard to use. I’ve realised also how ugly it looks I’m not using it anymore. It’s like looking at a pile of vomit frankly.

GoodReader back on top
I use my iPad and phone to manage a lot of files and PDFs and also create a lot of documents so a good PDF management app is key. I have had both goodreader and PDF expert for several years and have flipped to and fro between as they have gone through their iterative update. The latest round of updates puts good reader firmly back on top.
The access of tools and functions is more intuitive, I can find the things I need to do and do almost anything I can think of with a document.
PDF expert has taken a hit recently for needless frustrations like forcing printing through its partner app vice AirPrint. No such hassle with the new version of good reader, much faster opening than previously, use to find and use crop, and fault free air print. Signing and annotation all good and the new emphasis on security is welcome even if I won’t trust it with the Death Star plans just yet.

Invaluable. Great update
Use this app all the time for studying. Absolutely brilliant. You can download zip files of exam papers and open in GoodReader and unzip in app (no scuttling off to main computer!). If you wanted to look at two files before the update you had to copy the file and keep switching between the files tabs. Now you can split screen and use the same file at different places, i.e., questions in screen 1, answers in screen 2 (really handy if these are separated by 100 pages say, imagine having to do this manually!). Didn't think I'd need the update but really glad I did. The app has lots of great functionality, syncing with Dropbox, GoogleDrive, etc and lots of file organisation stuff, great. Thanks developers, a must buy for anyone with an iPad.
